Welcome from the President

As the sun is setting on this late spring day, I look back to my first days last August when I stepped into the role of President of the Club. I remember the first board meeting we had on my deck, where the sun set and the chill of the onset of Fall chased us back in the house. During that meeting we set out plans for the year to strengthen our membership, encourage more participation at events, and continue to hold quality, friendly events in the tradition of all Newcomers Clubs. It seems to be just a day ago, but then as I relive the events of our year, I realize how much time has past, and how we accomplished our goals this year for our new and established friends. I am extremely proud of all our volunteer efforts and all those that made the Club successful and welcoming in 2007/2008.

Since the President’s term is only one year, this June I will hand off the baton. Debbie Privert will be taking over the reins as the 2008/2009 President of the Newcomers Club of the Andovers. Debbie has been active in our Club as one of the Moms and Tots Chairs and also holds various volunteer positions in the community in both clubs and community services. She is new to the area in the last three years, yet already is well respected, well known, and has always been a great friend and mentor for me. I am extremely pleased to introduce her to all as our new President.

My family has often been on the move. Since my husband and I married 12 years ago, we have zig-zagged across the country to new communities. With our relocation to North Andover, we finally feel we have found not just our house, but our home. Some of our closest friends were found through the Newcomers’ Club. Ladies I consider to be my best girlfriends, children I am watching grow, gentlemen my husband meets for weekly drinks at Palmers, and mentors and advisors that I am so fortunately to have ready to listen or help. I cannot express the gratitude I have for this organization, for the people that make it wonderful, and for all the enjoyment I have experienced from being part of the Club. Thank you sincerely for the always dependable, warm welcome each of you extends. I look forward to seeing you all over the summer, and in the coming years.
